About Me

I am a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer and an Emergency Medical Technician here in Central Texas.

MARTIAL ARTS BACKGROUND
I began my martial arts training in 1990 in the art of Tang Soo Do while deployed in the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Storm.

From there I continued my training in 1995 with Sensei Jay Williams in Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts which has it’s roots in Shotokan Karate, Judo, Aikido, Wing Chun, Vovinam, Tai Chi, And Boxing, founded by Grand Master Ngo Dong in 1965.  While training in Cuong Nhu, I also trained in USMC LINE hand-to-hand combat while stationed as part of the Auxiliary Security Force for Naval Weapons Station, SC.  I received extensive training in weapons retention, arrest and apprehension, application and use of deadly force, escalation of force, use of force continuum, advanced firearms training, anti-terrorism, and defense against edged weapons.

Shortly after 9/11 while stationed on a US Navy Coastal Mine Hunter in South Texas, I was the ship-board anti-terrorism/force protection training officer. My job was to certify and maintain the qualifications of  the entire crew with firearms, (both small arms and crew served), and in shipboard security engagement tactics, anti-terrorism, threat assessment, watch standing use and application of deadly force, and escalation of force in support of the global war on terrorism.

In 1998 I  found the Wan Yun Loong Combat System, highly impressed by the caliber of teaching and training, I joined as a permanent member.

In 2006 I found Phan Ku Japanese Jujitsu, and studied under Sensei Michael Patterson for 4 years.
Col. Mark Miles (U.S. Army Ret.) developed this system from his 60 plus years of study starting at the Jujitsu Institute of Chicage in 1938, where he studied under the legendary Masato Tamura.

In 2010  I  joined the Springdale Arkansas Judo club and trained exclusively in judo again for approximately 3-4 months.

In 2001 was awarded with my first Shodan in the Wan Yun Loong.

In 2003 was appointed as assistant instructor under Richard Elizondo.

In 2004 was awarded the rank of Nidan in the Wan Yun Loong.

In 2009 was promoted to Nidan in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY

I believe that a journey in the martial arts, as well as in life, is one of ever receding destinations, there is no final step or last level to attain. The most we can ever hope to achieve is an ever-increasing awareness of ourselves, and the lessons that life teaches us.
Additionally I believe in the practical applications of martial arts . Real fighting is messy, bloody, and unorganized, therefore I believe that it is vitally essential to replicate that as much as safely possible in training to better prepare oneself for the real thing.
